Norris School District's Special Education Department is dedicated to meeting the unique needs of our students who are eligible for special education supports and services. Our goal is to provide a high quality education for each of our students, in the Least Restrictive Environment as possible. Most of these services can be provided for qualified students at local schools in collaboration with general education programs. However, some services and programs are only available at specified schools throughout the District and may require enrollment at a designated site.
If you suspect that your child needs additional support or is in need of additonal services to access thier education, please confer with your child's teacher and request a referral for a Student Assistance Team meeting. In the event that more support is needed after exhausting services and modifications in the general education setting, the Student Assistance Team and/or the parent or guardian may request an assessment to determine eligibility for special education. Qualified staff will conduct an assessment. An Individualized Educational Planning team, which includes the parents, will met to review the assessment information to determine eligibility, the services that are needed, and develop appropriate educational goals and objectives. The Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is reviewed at least annually.
The Special Education Department includes highly qualified Special Education Teachers, Speech and Language Pathologists, School Psychologists, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Counselors, Social Worker, other related service providers and Instructional Assistants. We value the partnership between general education staff, administration, and families to ensure approrpriate programs and educational access for students with disabilitites.
